FOR SALE – 1937 MG SA Charlesworth

Price: £75,000 ONO | Country: UK | Contact:

1937 MG SA Charlesworth body 4-seater open Tourer.

There were only 7 of this model built and this one was on the stand in Olympia and has a plaque on the dash board. The car was bought from the stand by Tarzan’s stuntman, Gerald Gordon, who took the car on the Queen Mary to the USA driving it 19,000 miles around the States (we have all the documentation). The article ‘MG SA Charlesworth – MG 5026’ in Issue 16 of the SVW Review tells the whole story.

Mr Gordon managed to return to the UK just before war broke out. Living in Scotland, after sometime he went bust and his car was auctioned. It was bought by 2 friends who completely renovated it. It was then taken to a museum in Cumbria. We saw it in about 1977.

My daughter’s future husband was a friend of the owner and we got to know him. At first they didn’t want to sell but, after a while they decided to sell and buy a castle in Scotland. Hence we have had the car for over 20 years enjoying car rallies and a few years ago winning the SVW trophy for the car most would like to own. We received this at Goodwood.

The only reason I have to part company is my health and age – I am not able to drive my lovely MG anymore.

We live in Nottingham area, if you would like to view the car please email or to arrange.
Richard Buckingham.
